About this worksheet
Reading an analog clock is a real-world skill that also strengthens skip counting and number sense. This second-grade worksheet shows twelve clearly drawn analog clocks, each with an hour hand and a longer minute hand pointing to a five-minute mark. Students write the time shown in digital form (for example, 4:35) on the line below each clock.
How to use it: start by reviewing the two hands. The short hand tells the hour, and the long hand tells the minutes. Teach your child to skip count by fives around the clock, starting at the 12 (0), then 1 (5), 2 (10), and so on. Point out that the hour hand moves slowly between numbers, so at 4:35 it sits past the 4 and partway toward the 5. If the hour hand is between two numbers, the hour is the number it has most recently passed. Practicing with a real clock at home, such as asking "What time is it?" before dinner or bedtime, helps the skill stick.
The answer key shows the correct time for each clock in order. This worksheet supports Common Core standard 2.MD.C.7 (tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes, using a.m. and p.m.). After finishing, ask your child whether each time would more likely be a.m. or p.m. in their day.
